"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things." - Henry Miller

See the world in green and blue

See China right in front of you

See the canyons broken by cloud

See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out

See the Bedouin fires at night

See the oil fields at first light

And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth

After the flood all the colors came out

The theme for our Summer/Fall 2010 edition is "Colors and Patterns." As travelers, we are exposed to such a broad array of cultural expressions, of art works, of lights and sounds, of magic and mystery. I want this edition of ExPatLit.com to really resonate with the energy and the pulse of diverse experience, to show our reading public just how colorful the life of an expat can be. Interpret this theme how you will: "Colors and Patterns" could be a literary motif, a visual approach, a thematic concept.

We are a tiny journal, operating on a barebones budget. Thus, we are not able to offer much in the way of monetary reward for contest winners. That said, we do believe in acknowledging excellence--and so we are offering a $50 USD grand prize to the author of the composition we believe most aptly captures our summer/fall theme.

You don't have to do anything special to receive contest consideration; simply follow our guidelines to submit your work for potential publication at ExPatLit.com. We will follow up with you after the August release of our journal if we select your composition as our contest winner.
